"Do You Need a Business Coach?"

If you are not currently earning all of the money you want to earn in network marketing, there are several issues you must deal with in order to build a successful business:

  1. What is your level of motivation?

  2. How big do you think?

  3. What is your level of commitment?

  4. How willing are you to learn how to sell? (Yes, I said sell.)

There's more.

What methods will you use to recruit people into your business?

By methods I mean...will you wait for people to come to you or will you seek them out?

When we say "wait" for people, we're referring to the way many people in NWM try to get prospects by handing out promotional material, sending out mailings, advertising, sending email, websites and a multitude of other "passive" marketing strategies.

The problem with these methods is that the network marketer has little or no control over how many leads he/she will generate. The network marketer has to "wait" and hope for the best.

How would you like to have a system for getting people in your business that can be predicted and duplicated over and over?

Read on.

A method for generating qualified leads that is rarely used by most network marketers is what I call, "earning" business. By earning leads I mean creating a business plan around prospecting and presenting.

By making prospecting calls to a targeted group on a consistent basis, the NWM can predict with certainty how many people will join his/her business over time.

The key to a predictable and successful NWM business is having a good business plan for working the business.

The business plan needs to consist of at least these four things:

  1. Knowing who your prospects are

  2. Knowing exactly what to say to them

  3. Knowing how to manage your time

  4. Following a successful business model

Prospecting:

The foundation of building a productive and profitable network marketing business is to master the skills of prospecting. The skills must be as solid as a rock so that the network marketer doesn't crumble at the slightest amount of adversity.

To acquire solid prospecting and selling skills, exact scripts, dialogues and techniques must be practiced daily. They must be learned and ingrained into the subconscious mind so that they are effortless and automatic.

Here are some business planning points:

  1. The objective in prospecting is to get presentations-- not leads. When you get a lead, you must qualify it immediately and close for a presentation, otherwise you're going to be spending too much time doing follow-up calls. If you do it right, you can close 50% of your presentations.

  2. When prospecting you must learn to use every word of the script you’ve been given. Winging it will get you into trouble.

  3. You must have a response to every question and objection you might receive while prospecting and presenting. This is the easiest way to not only build confidence in yourself but to also train your prospects.

  4. Prospecting intensity is critical: you should never stop prospecting because you have (or have not) generated a lead. Generating or not generating a lead is not the issue: it's the discipline of completing the prospecting process that is the issue...and it will require intensity on your part.

  5. You can control the response and the effectiveness of your prospecting by controlling both the quality and the quantity of the contacts that you are making.

  6. If you're uncomfortable making prospecting calls, it means that you either do not have a defined script or you are calling the wrong people.

  7. Prospecting success comes as a result of patience and an understanding of the time required to make things happen.

  8. To get the best results in the least amount of time, you have to create the habit of never giving a presentation until you've pre-qualified your prospect 100%.

Why people don't like prospecting:

We generally do not prospect for any one of a number of reasons. Discover which one is stopping you. Maybe it's that you don't have any prospecting scripts; you can't handle rejection, acceptance or embarrassment; or maybe it's something as simple as poor time management skills because you've never created a schedule for doing it.

To increase your skills you must develop both positive and negative consequences to your own behavior and then have somebody hold you accountable. You want to make sure you are using the skills you are being taught and that you don't continue to make the same mistakes repetitively.

(Sadly, network marketing is one of the few industries where basic selling skills are not taught. The results are that most network marketers get in the business without knowing how to prospect and present and then they fade away or drop out.)
