"The Incredible Power of Niche Marketing"

One of the most common misconceptions today is that network marketing can be all things to all people.

Hey, our products and our business opportunities are available to anyone that has a pulse, right? No discrimination whatsoever. It's the American way (no pun intended).

Besides, isn't it true that the more people we have to choose from, the greater our chances for success?

No.

Where can you find a doctor today who is a general practitioner? Where can you find an attorney who practices all types of law? Where can you find a school teacher who teaches every subject?

Do they know something that we don't know?

I'm sure you can see specialization at work in other areas of life and business...like computers, restaurants, construction and even politics. (Remember Bill Clinton's slogan, "It's the economy stupid"?)

Today's business success is synonymous with specialization. Here are just a few benefits of choosing to work within a narrow niche market instead of a general market:

  1. You can very quickly be perceived as an expert by studying your niche. (People love working with experts.)

  2. You can easily build a database and over time develop a relationship with your market. (They will be attracted to you.)

  3. You can attract prospects to you from free publicity by writing articles about your niche. Example: You're the "Health and Wellness Coach" and you publish a free email newsletter each month. (You sly fox...I'll bet you've already figured out that's how we do it here at MLM University.)

  4. You'll be able to get speaking engagements, guest appearances and celebrity interviews because you're the person who knows everything about that particular subject.

Okay, so how do you, the network marketer, specialize?

How do you choose the right niche? What do you look for?

Here are the questions to ask yourself before you select a niche market:

  1. Is the market large enough? (If your niche market is people that sell typewriters, you might have a problem.)

  2. Can they afford your products and/or your business? (People that live on welfare or social security don't have enough money to properly invest in a business. Yeah, I know, they're the people who really need it and it only costs $10 to get a starter kit. But, are they the kind of people who are going to quickly develop into leaders for you? Probably not.)

  3. Is there a burning need? (Small business people, real estate brokers, teachers and nurses are great niche markets (among others) because they are not making enough money and/or they are under a great deal of stress.)

  4. Can you reach them? (You can buy lists of just about any kind of specialized groups like engineers, entrepreneurs, salespeople, etc. with mailing addresses and phone numbers. That wouldn't be so easy if you chose a niche market of say, "people who want more freedom.")

  5. Is the niche being underserved? (If you market to other network marketers, you'll have a lot of competition. But if you market to women who want to be "stay-at-home moms," they'll be much more receptive to your proposal because they will identify with you.)

Answer to Quiz:

I don't know the answer. (Gotcha!)

All prospects are good. (Did you really think I knew everything?)

Seriously, the best prospects for you outside of your warm market are people who can identify with you. In other words, if you have a teaching background, teachers are your best bet. If you have an engineering background, they should be the ones to contact.

Why? Because you know the problems they are having and you know where to find these people.
